Simon Pey Tiek

Simon Pey Tiek is pursuing an MSc in International Health and Tropical Medicine at the Nuffield Department of Medicine, University of Oxford. He is a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar and a member of St Cross College.

Simon’s educational journey began in Kenya's largest refugee camps, Kakuma and Dadaab, where he attended primary and secondary school. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Health from Moi University, Kenya, supported by the DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) Scholarship.

At Moi University, Simon was an active member of the Students’ One Health Club, contributing to outreach campaigns on antimicrobial resistance and infectious diseases. He is an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Regional Leadership Centre, East Africa. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he worked as a Community Health Worker with the International Rescue Committee, raising awareness among refugee communities in Kakuma.

Simon’s interests lie in infectious disease epidemiology, health systems strengthening, and evaluating public health interventions. After completing his studies at Oxford, he aims to pursue a PhD in Infectious Disease Epidemiology and collaborate with institutions in developing countries to reduce the burden of infectious diseases in Africa. He also aspires to train and empower researchers in low- and middle-income countries to lead locally relevant research agendas.
