Sharmarke Dubow

Sharmarke Dubow is a former city councillor, dedicated community organiser, and passionate advocate. His impactful contributions in the areas of community development, youth empowerment, local governance, inclusive cities initiatives, and refugee issues have earned him various awards and recognition. Sharmarke is currently studying for a Master's in Public Policy at the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford. He holds a diploma in public relations from the University of Victoria and a BA in Business Technology from the University of Cape Breton in Canada.

Proficient in Somali, Arabic, and English, Sharmarke considers Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia, Egypt, and Canada as his homes, reflecting his diverse background and experiences. With a wide range of interests that include culture, hiking, travel, soccer, and international events, Sharmarke is deeply committed to leveraging the potential of cities for a global impact. He is particularly passionate about fostering inclusive local governance and infrastructure, especially in the context of ongoing urbanisation where cities currently host over half of the global population and are projected to house 70% by 2050. Sharmarke understands the need for context-specific solutions in tackling these challenges.
