Benedict Ipaa

Benedict Ipaa is a Kenyan pursuing an MSc in Medical Physics and Radiobiology at the Department of Oncology in Oxford. He is a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar and a member of Christ Church.

Before Oxford, Ipaa studied at the Technical University of Kenya (TUK). He worked as an intern at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral and Research Hospital (KUTRRH) for two years. He joined Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) for his final year attachment. He also participated in the Medical Linear Accelerator Commissioning at Nakuru Regional Cancer Center.

In addition, Ipaa participated in the Cyberknife Commissioning. It is a sophisticated, robotic, radiotherapy-treating equipment for cancer treatment with super precision. It is the second in Africa after Egypt.

Ipaa has been doing Quality Assurance for Radiotherapy, Diagnostic, and Nuclear Medicine equipment. He wishes to pursue a DPhil in Oncology and later participate in the Harvard Medical Physics Residency. He endeavours to do groundbreaking research on cancer prevalence in Kenya and Africa. After that, Benedict plans to work closely with the hospitals he volunteered for. Lastly, he wishes to be an instructor back in Kenya and will actively train in Radiobiology with knowledge from Oxford. Benedict’s most burning objectives are the eradication of cancer and being a Medical Physics consultant.
