Acho Fon Abongwa

Acho Fon Abongwa is a Cameroonian medical doctor and HIV service delivery specialist. He is a Mastercard AfOx Scholar, currently pursuing an MSc in Integrated Immunology at the Nuffield Department of Surgical Sciences, University of Oxford. Acho is a member of Hertford College.

Acho has dedicated nearly his entire professional career to the fight for epidemic control of HIV in Cameroon. He has spent over five years with the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation (EGPAF), working on the frontline to deliver HIV control interventions and engaging with communities in the South Region of Cameroon, which has the highest HIV prevalence in the country. He has led implementation science research projects on the rollout of HIV self-tests in Cameroon, improving the uptake of tuberculosis preventive therapy among people living with HIV, and enhancing the clinical outcomes of individuals with high viral loads.

Acho completed his medical degree at the Faculty of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences, University of Yaoundé 1, where he graduated with distinction in 2018.

Acho envisions a world where an HIV vaccine and cure are available and equitably accessible. Through the MSc in Integrated Immunology programme, he aims to transition from HIV service delivery to actively contributing to HIV cure and vaccine development.
