Abdalla Mohammed

Abdalla Mohammed is a civil engineer and a researcher in water resources and environmental engineering. His research interests include hydrological modelling, dam operation, remote sensing, drought and flood management, and the application of Deep Learning for hydrological purposes. Abdalla is studying for an  MSc in water science, policy, and management at the School of Geography and the Environment, University of Oxford. Abdalla is a Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholar and a member of Linacre College.

He has worked as a teaching and research assistant in the civil engineering department at the University of Khartoum. During his time at the water research centre, Abdalla was engaged in a multidisciplinary research project aimed at evaluating the socio-economic and environmental impacts of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) on Sudan. This project involved collaboration with various stakeholders, including research institutes, universities, ministries, consultancy firms, NGOs, and media platforms. While at IHE Delft, he participated in a research project focused on utilising deep learning and machine learning techniques for flood forecasting and rainfall-runoff modelling toward more efficient and robust flood early warning systems.

He has completed his bachelor's degree in civil engineering from the University of Khartoum in Sudan. He also holds a master's degree in water science and engineering, specialising in hydroinformatics and modelling techniques for water management, from the IHE Delft Institute for Water Education in the Netherlands.

He aims to enhance collaboration between the University of Oxford and research institutes in Africa, aiming to advance the region's environmental and water management practices.
