Emmanuel Yengi
Yengi has over seven years of experience designing and implementing Environmental and Social Framework Instruments, including Impact Assessments, Management plans, and Safety Systems for UNOPS and NGOs. Under the Mastercard Foundation AfOx Scholarship, Yengi will study for a Master of Science in Environmental Change and Management at Linacre College at the University of Oxford. He hopes to gain a deeper understanding of the intricate relationship between human systems and environmental change.
Yengi previously served as a policy officer for climate change at the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in South Sudan. In this role, he integrated climate change considerations into all programming aspects, including designing interventions for climate change adaptation and mitigation.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from Makerere University in Uganda. While at university, he co-founded Friends of Environment Uganda, a student-led organisation focused on addressing local environmental challenges, such as poor waste management affecting communities around the university. He was also the leader of the Makerere University Climate Change Association, a student club actively engaged in creating awareness about climate change and other environmental matters, including sustainability.
Yengi plans to return to Africa after completing his studies to work on policy development and review, specifically integrating climate change into development projects.
